Coronary Diseases
What Is Coronary Artery Disease?

Coronary artery disease (CAD) occurs when the coronary arteries become narrowed or blocked, most commonly as a result of atherosclerosis.
Reduced blood flow to the heart muscle can cause:
- Chest discomfort
- Shortness of breath
- Reduced exercise tolerance
- Fatigue
A complete or sudden coronary artery blockage can result in a myocardial infarction (heart attack).
Diagnosis and treatment depend on symptoms, risk factors, heart function, coronary anatomy, and the overall clinical situation.
Treatment may include lifestyle modification, preventive medical therapy, anti-anginal treatment, PCI/stenting, or coronary artery bypass surgery in selected patients.
